— beginning of Marianne (1875)
George Sand

Here I am, worried and anxious; there she is, serenity incarnate. How can she appear before me like a human reproach? Like an ironic comment on my own life.
— Marianne (1875) chapter VI
George Sand

The author of these novellas has never had a system as to the priority of one sex over the other.
— Preface to The Marquise & Pauline (1861) translated into English by Sylvie Charron and Sue Huseman (1999)

— Preface to The Marquise & Pauline (1861)
