Born December 21, 1937, to actor Henry Fonda and socialite Frances Ford Seymour, she arrived on Broadway and screen in 1960 with a Tony nomination out of the gate. The comedies came first — Cat Ballou, Barefoot in the Park, Barbarella (directed by her first husband, Roger Vadim) — then the pivot: a Best Actress Oscar for playing a prostitute in Klute (1971), another for Coming Home (1978), five more nominations across the decade.
