She wrote "I Will Always Love You" twice to number one before Whitney Houston turned it into the best-selling single by a woman in history. Across six decades she put 25 songs atop the country chart, wrote over 3,000 more, and built an empire that made her as famous for what she gave away as what she sang.

About this person

Dolly Rebecca Parton wrote her first song at six, performed on television by ten, and turned professional songwriter at sixteen. Her debut album Hello, I'm Dolly arrived in 1967, kicking off a nearly 60-year run that produced 49 studio albums, hits like "Jolene" and "Coat of Many Colors", and the crossover smash "9 to 5", which hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100. She starred in film comedies from 9 to 5 (1980) to Steel Magnolias (1989), earned a Primetime Emmy for her Netflix Christmas film in 2021, and picked up a Tony nomination for writing the Broadway musical of 9 to 5 in 2009. Her final solo album, Rockstar, became her highest-charting record on the Billboard 200 in 2023, reaching number three. She left behind 52 RIAA certifications, eleven Grammys, the Kennedy Center Honor, and a humanitarian legacy tied to Dollywood and the foundation that bore her name.
