About

Alain Delon arrived in the late 1950s and spent thirty years as European cinema's most unsettling leading man. Purple Noon in 1960 set the template: beauty weaponized, charm turned lethal. He moved between Visconti's aristocratic decay in The Leopard, Antonioni's existential drift in L'Eclisse, and Melville's noir rituals in Le Samouraï and Le Cercle Rouge, playing men whose elegance barely concealed the void. Directors lined up — Godard, Malle, Varda — knowing his face could carry moral ambiguity without explanation. In 1985 he won the César for Notre histoire; by 2019 Cannes gave him the Hon…
