About

Born Anna Mae Bullock in 1939, she rose to fame in the 1960s as half of Ike & Tina Turner, an R&B duo whose live shows with the Ikettes and Kings of Rhythm made songs like "Proud Mary" and "Nutbush City Limits" electric. She separated from Ike Turner in 1976 and spent years rebuilding. The 1983 hit "Let's Stay Together" cracked the door; Private Dancer in 1984 blew it open, with "What's Love Got to Do with It" winning the Grammy for Record of the Year and reaching number one. Her Break Every Rule World Tour became the highest-grossing tour by a female artist in the 1980s, and a 1988 concert in…
