Lionel Andrés Messi made his debut for Barcelona at 17 in October 2004, and by the 2008–09 season had helped deliver the club's first treble, winning the first of four straight Ballons d'Or in the process. He became Barcelona's all-time top scorer, led them to a second treble in 2014–15, and left in August 2021 with 34 trophies after financial collapse forced the exit.
