Biography

About

Born in England in 1643, Newton became Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge at 26. His *Principia Mathematica*, published in 1687, unified physics under classical mechanics and erased doubt about heliocentricity by using gravity to derive Kepler's laws, account for comets, and predict the Earth's oblate shape. He developed calculus years before Leibniz, collected his work on light and prisms in *Opticks* (1704), and ranged across the binomial theorem, numerical integration, and early linear regression. A devout but unorthodox Christian who rejected the Trinity and refused holy orders…
