About
Viggo Mortensen made his film debut in Peter Weir's 1985 thriller Witness and spent the late 1990s in supporting turns across genres, from The Portrait of a Lady to G.I. Jane to A Perfect Murder. The Lord of the Rings trilogy (2001–2003) brought international attention as Aragorn, but he used the momentum to chase stranger territory: a string of collaborations with David Cronenberg starting with A History of Violence in 2005, then Eastern Promises in 2007, which earned him his first Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.
