About

Denzel Hayes Washington Jr. trained at the American Conservatory Theater before finding his first major visibility in the NBC medical drama St. Elsewhere from 1982 to 1988. He won his first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor playing a Civil War soldier in Glory in 1989, then took Best Actor twelve years later as a corrupt police officer in Training Day. Between those wins came a run through Malcolm X, The Hurricane, Philadelphia, and a string of thrillers that made him one of the most bankable leads in Hollywood.
