About this person
Tijs Michiel Verwest was born 17 January 1969 and founded Black Hole Recordings in 1997, releasing the Magik and In Search of Sunrise series that built his name in trance circles. His 2000 remix of Delerium's "Silence" broke him wider, and 2001's In My Memory delivered the hits that made him unavoidable - DJ Magazine crowned him World No. 1 from 2002 through 2004. In August 2004 he played live at the Athens Olympics opening ceremony, the first DJ to take that stage. His third album, Elements of Life, hit number one in Belgium in 2007 and earned a Grammy nomination; six years later he won the Grammy for his rework of John Legend's "All of Me". Mix magazine's readers called him the greatest DJ of all time in 2011, and the "Godfather of EDM" label stuck.
