The only American president elected twice non-consecutively in over a century, impeached twice, criminally convicted once, and still returned to power. His presence bends the gravitational field of U.S. politics whether he's in office or out.

About this person

Born into a wealthy New York real estate family in 1946, Trump took over his father's business in 1971, renamed it the Trump Organization, and built a portfolio of skyscrapers, hotels, and casinos - filing for six business bankruptcies along the way. From 2004 to 2015 he hosted The Apprentice, which cemented his public image as a billionaire dealmaker. Running as a political outsider, he won the 2016 election against Hillary Clinton and served as 45th president, imposing a travel ban on Muslim-majority countries, expanding the border wall, cutting taxes, appointing three Supreme Court justices, and starting a trade war with China. After losing to Joe Biden in 2020, he refused to concede and attempted to overturn the result, culminating in the January 6 Capitol attack. He was impeached twice and acquitted both times, then found liable for sexual abuse and business fraud in civil court and convicted on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in 2024. He won the 2024 election against Kamala Harris, received a no-penalty sentence, and began a second presidency marked by mass federal layoffs, sweeping tariffs, mass deportations, and a military raid into Venezue
