Mother of Donald Trump (1912–2000)
She left the Gaelic-speaking Outer Hebrides at eighteen and married a Queens real-estate developer, then raised five children — one of whom would take the presidency twice.
Born May 10, 1912, in the Outer Hebrides as a native Scottish Gaelic speaker, Mary Anne MacLeod immigrated to the United States in 1930. She became a naturalized citizen in March 1942 and married Fred Trump, an American real-estate developer. Together they raised five children in New York City, including Donald Trump, who would become the 45th and 47th president of the United States. She spent decades as a socialite and philanthropist in New York before her death on August 7, 2000.
