Tim Kennedy fought cage matches while serving as an active-duty U.S. Army soldier - a split that almost no one in professional MMA has managed. The attention comes from the gap: most fighters train full-time, he deployed between bouts.

This book is dedicated to the men and women we have lost in the Twenty Years War.
My name is Ted Kennedy, and I have a problem: I only feel alive when I'm about to die.
And that's what this book is about.

About this person
Timothy Fred Kennedy was born September 1, 1979. He turned pro in mixed martial arts in 2001 and spent the next fifteen years moving between the UFC, Strikeforce, the WEC, ShoMMA, HDNet Fights, and a stint with the Chicago Red Bears in the IFL. Through all of it he remained on active duty with the U.S. Army, a scheduling feat that made him an outlier in the sport. He retired from fighting in 2016 and moved into television hosting, producing, and business.
