Born April 25, 1940, Alfredo James Pacino came up through underground theater and off-Broadway, studying method under Charlie Laughton and Lee Strasberg at the Actors Studio. His 1972 turn as Michael Corleone in The Godfather made him inescapable; the nominations piled up - Serpico, The Godfather Part II, Dog Day Afternoon - but the Oscar didn't come until Scent of a Woman twenty years later. In between and after: Scarface, Heat, The Insider, The Irishman, plus two Tonys and two Emmys for Angels in America and the Kevorkian biopic. He's directed four films, published a memoir in 2024, and since 1995 has been co-president of the Actors Studio. Films he's been in have grossed over $3 billion; the work remains the through-line.
