About

Sigmund Freud was born in 1856 and trained as a neurologist before founding psychoanalysis, a clinical method built on dialogue between patient and analyst to surface psychic conflicts. He introduced free association, dream interpretation as wish fulfillment, and the analysis of transference, then redefined sexuality to include infantile stages and formulated the Oedipus complex as central to his theory. From there he elaborated the unconscious, repression, and a tripartite model of the mind — id, ego, superego — powered by libido and a death drive underlying aggression and guilt. His later wo…
