Born in Harlem in 1969, Sean John Combs worked as a talent director at Uptown Records before founding Bad Boy Records in 1993, where he discovered the Notorious B.I.G., Mary J. Blige, and Usher. His 1997 debut No Way Out sold over 7 million copies in the US and made him the first solo artist to replace himself atop the Billboard Hot 100 with "I'll Be Missing You" and his feature on "Mo Money Mo Problems". Three more albums followed through 2006, plus the trio Diddy - Dirty Money's Last Train to Paris in 2010, and he became the first rapper with five number-one singles. He topped Forbes' hip-hop rich list in 2014 and 2017, launched the clothing line Sean John (winning Menswear Designer of the Year in 2004), served as Cîroc brand ambassador from 2007 to 2023, and co-founded Revolt in 2013. In late 2023 his former partner Cassie Ventura filed a sexual assault lawsuit that he settled, then numerous similar claims followed alleging misconduct between 1991 and 2009; in September 2024 he was charged with federal sex trafficking, transportation to engage in prostitution, and racketeering.
