About

The eighth child of the Jackson family, he fronted the Jackson 5 at six and went solo with Off the Wall in 1979. Thriller arrived in 1982 and became the best-selling album in history; its videos for "Thriller," "Beat It," and "Billie Jean" redefined the medium and broke racial barriers on television. Bad in 1987 spun five US number-one singles, a first. From the mid-1980s onward, scrutiny over his appearance and personal life intensified; he was accused of child abuse in 1993, which did not lead to charges, and acquitted of further allegations in 2005.
