Born November 1, 1949, Foster grew up in Canada and became the architect behind chart dominance across five decades. He composed and produced "After the Love Has Gone", "Hard to Say I'm Sorry", "St. Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion)", "Glory of Love", and shaped Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" and "I Have Nothing". His 45 Grammy nominations span the 1970s through the 2000s, with three Academy Award nods for Best Original Song. Warner Music Group named him senior vice president in 1997; he chaired Verve Records from 2012 to 2016. In 2023 he premiered Boop! The Musical in Chicago, which opened on Broadway in 2025 and earned him a Drama Desk nomination for Outstanding Music.
