Streisand began in early 1960s nightclubs and Broadway before signing to Columbia Records, where she traded money for creative control - a deal that held for her entire career. Her 1963 debut won the Grammy for Album of the Year. She became the first woman to score 11 number-one albums on the Billboard 200, from People (1964) to Encore (2016), and remains the only artist to top the chart in six decades. After establishing herself as a vocalist, she moved into film, winning the Oscar for Best Actress in Funny Girl (1968), then starring in Hello, Dolly! (1969), What's Up, Doc? (1972), and The Way We Were (1973). In 1976 she became the first woman to win the Academy Award for Best Original Song as a composer, for A Star Is Born. With Yentl (1983), she became the first woman to write, produce, direct, and star in a major studio film, winning the Golden Globe for Best Director - the first woman to do so. She's sold 200 million records worldwide and holds 68.5 million certified album units in the US, with ten Grammys, two Oscars, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
