Biography

About

Joseph Walter Jackson was born July 26, 1928, and became a talent manager who shaped the Jackson family into an entertainment dynasty. He pushed his children through rigorous rehearsals and strict discipline, launching the careers of the Jackson 5 and Michael Jackson's solo ascent. The methods that built the empire—widely described as harsh and controlling—cast a long shadow over his legacy, even as the music endured. In 2014 he was inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame. He died June 27, 2018, two days short of his 90th birthday.
