William John Neeson was born in Northern Ireland on 7 June 1952 and started in theater before his 1978 film debut in Pilgrim's Progress. Early roles in Excalibur, The Bounty, and The Mission built momentum, but Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List in 1993 gave him an Academy Award nomination and launched him as a leading man in dramas like Michael Collins and Les Misérables. He took blockbuster turns as Qui-Gon Jinn in The Phantom Menace, Ra's al Ghul in Batman Begins, and the voice of Aslan across three Narnia films, while also appearing in Gangs of New York, Love Actually, and Kinsey. Then in 2008, at an age when most actors slow down, Taken recast him as an action lead - a second career that stuck for a decade across sequels, collaborations with director Jaume Collet-Serra (Unknown, Non-Stop, Run All Night, The Commuter), and films like The Grey and Cold Pursuit. He earned two Tony nominations on Broadway and was appointed OBE in 2000.
