About this person
Kendrick Lamar Duckworth started releasing tracks as K.Dot in Compton high school, signed with Top Dawg Entertainment in 2005, and co-founded Black Hippy before his 2011 debut Section.80 caught ears. Good Kid, M.A.A.D City arrived in 2012 - a gangsta rap bildungsroman that became the longest-charting hip hop album on the Billboard 200 and later Rolling Stone's greatest concept album of all time. To Pimp a Butterfly followed in 2015, weaving jazz, funk, and soul into a sprawling meditation on black identity that hit number one and redrew the genre's borders. Damn (2017) leaned into R&B and pop, delivered "Humble", and earned him the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Music - the first for any musician outside classical or jazz. After Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers closed his TDE chapter in 2022, he ignited a public war with Drake in 2024 that produced "Not Like Us" (five Grammys, including Song and Record of the Year) and three other chart-toppers, then released GNX and headlined the most-watched Super Bowl halftime show in history in 2025.
