Biography

About

Hatice Sultan was born before 1494 to Selim I and Hafsa Sultan, entering a royal house on the edge of its greatest expansion. Her father would seize the throne in 1512 and rapidly conquer the Mamluk Sultanate, transforming the Ottomans into a true empire. Her full brother Suleiman took power in 1520 and ruled for forty-six years, the longest and most celebrated reign in Ottoman history. She survived deep into that era, living past 1543. The records thin after that.
