Biography

About

Georges Albert Maurice Victor Bataille was born on 10 September 1897 and died on 8 July 1962. A French intellectual who ranged across philosophy, literature, sociology, anthropology, and the history of art, he produced essays, novels, and poetry that pressed into eroticism, mysticism, surrealism, and transgression. The writing refused easy categorization and carried a dark, boundary-testing energy. It would go on to shape post-structuralism and later schools of philosophy and social theory, leaving a mark on how thinkers approached desire, violence, and the sacred.
