About

Born in Arkansas in 1946, William Jefferson Clinton graduated from Georgetown and Yale Law School, where he met Hillary Rodham. He won the state attorney general seat, then served as Arkansas governor in non-consecutive stretches, overhauling education. Running as a "New Democrat" in 1992, he beat George H. W. Bush and Ross Perot to take the White House. His first term brought NAFTA, the Brady Act, crime legislation, and Supreme Court appointments of Ginsburg and Breyer, but a failed health care push and a 1994 midterm rout pushed him rightward.
