Brazilian association football player (1934–2002)
A striker they called "Steel Chest" — Vavá turned raw power into goals for Brazil's national team and a handful of clubs across two continents, earning a reputation as one of the sharpest finishers of his era.
Born Edvaldo Izidio Neto on 12 November 1934, he became Vavá on the pitch and "Peito de Aço" in the stands — a nickname that spoke to how he played. He moved through Vasco da Gama, Atlético Madrid, and Palmeiras, leaving defenders behind at each stop. By the time he hung up his boots, he'd carved out a place among the generation's best strikers. He died on 19 January 2002.
