Bernard Schwartz was born June 3, 1925, and by the 1950s he'd transformed into Tony Curtis, landing more than 100 film roles across six decades. Sweet Smell of Success in 1957 gave him his first serious notice as a dramatic actor, and the following year The Defiant Ones earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor alongside Sidney Poitier. Then came 1959's twin comedies Some Like It Hot and Operation Petticoat, and a supporting role in Spartacus in 1960. After that the stardom dimmed considerably, though he returned to dramatic weight in 1968's The Boston Strangler and played a Ukrain…
