Sharon Marie Tate made her film debut in 1961 as an extra in Barabbas, then moved through British mystery horror and small roles before landing Jennifer North in Valley of the Dolls in 1967. The part earned her a Golden Globe nomination and launched her as a Hollywood sex symbol, appearing in Playboy and working with Roman Polanski on The Fearless Vampire Killers — he would become her husband. Critics compared her to Marilyn Monroe and called her one of the industry's most promising newcomers.
