About

Born August 17, 1960, Penn broke through playing Jeff Spicoli in Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982) before pivoting to darker, coiled roles in Bad Boys and At Close Range. He earned five Oscar nominations across the '90s and 2000s for Dead Man Walking, Sweet and Lowdown, I Am Sam, then won twice: Mystic River (2003) and Milk (2008). He directed four features, including Into the Wild (2007), and acted steadily through The Tree of Life, Licorice Pizza, and into 2023's Daddio. In 2025 he took Best Supporting Actor for playing a corrupt officer in One Battle After Another. Offscreen he ran relief…
