Pope
A seventh-century pope who spent four years repairing Rome's churches and pushing back against a theological compromise that tried to split the difference on Christ's will.
Born around 621, Adeodatus II became bishop of Rome in 672. His papacy focused on two fronts: the physical restoration of churches across the city and the doctrinal fight against monothelitism, a position that claimed Christ had only one will rather than both human and divine. He held the office for four years, dying on 17 June 676.
