7th century pope
A seventh-century bishop of Rome whose papacy left almost no trace — the historical record holds a span of dates and little else.
Donus became bishop of Rome in 676. His tenure lasted less than two years, ending with his death on 11 April 678. The Liber Pontificalis, the official papal chronicle, preserves his name and reign but offers virtually nothing about what he did or who he was. He occupies a slot in the sequence of popes, a placeholder where details should be.
