About this person
Patrick Morrisey was raised in Edison, New Jersey, and earned his bachelor's and law degrees from Rutgers University. He worked as an attorney and lobbyist in New Jersey and Washington, D.C., before relocating to West Virginia. In 2012 he won election as the state's attorney general - the first Republican to hold that office since 1933. He ran for U.S. Senate in 2018 but narrowly lost to incumbent Democrat Joe Manchin. Six years later, Morrisey defeated Democrat Stephen T. Williams to become West Virginia's 37th governor, taking office in 2025.
