Born 15 July 1954, Mario Alberto Kempes Chiodi built his reputation at Valencia, where he finished as La Liga's top scorer twice and racked up 116 goals in 184 league games. The 1978 World Cup made him immortal: as Argentina's focal point, he scored six times including two in the final, claimed both the Golden Boot and Golden Ball, and joined Garrincha and Paolo Rossi as the only players to sweep all three major awards at a single tournament.
