He won the 2025 Formula One World Championship after eight seasons of near-misses and second places - the kid from Glastonbury who turned a decade of "almost" into the title that had always seemed one corner away.

About this person

Born in Bristol in 1999 to an English father and Belgian mother, Norris started karting at eight and won the senior World Championship in 2014. He swept through junior formulae - MSA Formula in 2015, three championships in 2016, F3 Europe in 2017, then second in F2 behind George Russell in 2018. McLaren brought him up through their Young Driver Programme and into a race seat in 2019 alongside Carlos Sainz Jr. His first podium came at the 2020 Austrian Grand Prix, his first pole in Russia 2021, but the win waited until Miami 2024 - by then he'd stacked enough nearly-there finishes to fill a drawer. He took three more wins that year and finished second to Max Verstappen in the championship. In 2025 he closed it: seven victories, including Britain, and the title in a three-way fight with Verstappen and his own teammate Oscar Piastri. Time named him one of the 100 most influential people in 2026; he won the Laureus Breakthrough Award and co-founded a junior racing team. He's signed with McLaren through 2030.
