Basinger started as a model, pivoted to acting in 1976, and logged TV work before her feature debut in Hard Country (1981). Never Say Never Again (1983) made her a Bond girl and a name. A Golden Globe nod for The Natural (1984) followed, then the erotic headline-grabber 9½ Weeks (1986) and the biggest payday of her career as Vicki Vale in Tim Burton's Batman (1989).
