Biography

About

Born between 605 and 615 CE to Muhammad and Khadija, Fatima married Ali, who would become the fourth Rashidun caliph and first Shia imam. She bore two sons, Hasan and Husayn, ensuring the survival of Muhammad's lineage. When her father died in 632, Fatima and Ali rejected Abu Bakr's caliphate, insisting Ali was the rightful successor. She died within six months — Sunni tradition says from grief, Shia accounts say from injuries sustained in a raid on her house ordered by Abu Bakr to force Ali's submission.
