King of Denmark, Norway and Sweden 1442-1448
The last king to wear all three Nordic crowns at once — until nobody wanted him wearing any of them.
Christopher of Bavaria took the Danish throne in 1440 after Erik of Pomerania was thrown out, then added Sweden in 1441 and Norway in 1442, uniting the Kalmar Union under a single ruler. His early years were spent crushing peasant uprisings in Funen and Jutland. The Swedish nobles turned against him, blaming him for failed harvests and his inability to stop Erik's raids, and kept pointing to the fact that he wasn't one of them. He died in January 1448, barely thirty-one, and the union he'd briefly held together came apart in his hands.
