Queen consort of Prussia (1776–1810)
Queen of Prussia who faced Napoleon across a table at Tilsit in 1807, pleading for mercy after her country's defeat. The meeting failed but transformed her into a symbol — "the soul of national virtue" — and her death at thirty-four froze that image in place.
Louise Auguste Wilhelmine Amalie became Queen of Prussia through marriage to Frederick William III, a union that was both happy and fertile: nine children, including two future monarchs. The turning point came in 1807, after Prussia's crushing losses in the War of the Fourth Coalition, when she traveled to Tilsit to negotiate directly with Napoleon for better terms.
