Something wrong? She made a wig and an accent into one of television's great comic inventions, but that was act three of a career that had already given her an Emmy for sketch work in the 1980s and a place in the ensemble machinery of Christopher Guest's best films.

Catherine Anne O'Hara came up through Second City Television in 1976, winning an Emmy for sketch comedy before most people knew her name. Through the late 1980s and early 1990s she moved into films - After Hours, Beetlejuice, the two Home Alone pictures - and became a regular in Christopher Guest's mockumentaries, from Waiting for Guffman in 1996 through For Your Consideration a decade later. Voice work kept her busy in animation, including The Nightmare Before Christmas and later Frankenweenie and The Wild Robot. Then in 2015 she and Eugene Levy, her scene partner since the SCTV days, anchored Schitt's Creek, and her turn as Moira Rose - performed in a repertoire of wigs and a hard-to-place accent - won her a second Emmy and a Golden Globe. Late-career nominations followed for Temple Grandin, The Last of Us, and The Studio before her death in January 2026.
