Half of ABBA's songwriting engine, the man at the piano behind "Dancing Queen" and "The Winner Takes It All" — then turned those melodies into global stage musicals.
Göran Bror Benny Andersson was born 16 December 1946 in Sweden. He joined ABBA and became the group's co-composer, writing the songs that made them one of pop's biggest acts. After ABBA, he co-wrote the musicals Chess, Kristina från Duvemåla, and Mamma Mia!, the last of which became a film in 2008 and a sequel in 2018, both of which he executive produced. Since 2001 he's led his own ensemble, Benny Anderssons orkester, still playing and arranging. The melodies haven't stopped.
