Bayezid II

Bayezid II took the throne in 1481 and spent three decades stabilizing an empire still expanding its reach. He put down a rebellion aligned with the Safavid cause, tightening his hold on a realm that stretched across three continents. When Ferdinand and Isabella issued the Alhambra Decree in 1492, Bayezid sent ships to Iberia and resettled the Sephardi refugees throughout Ottoman lands, with Salonica becoming a major center. In 1512, after years of tension with his son Selim, he abdicated and died two weeks later on the road from the capital.
