Sixth Sultan of the Ottoman Empire (1421–1444, 1446–1451)
The Ottoman sultan who retired once, came back to crush a Crusade, then tried retirement again — ruling in two separate stints across three decades of 15th-century power.
Murad II took the Ottoman throne in June 1404 and ruled as sultan from 1421 to 1444. He abdicated, stepping away from power in 1444. Two years later he returned, ruling again from 1446 until his death on 3 February 1451. The empire passed through his hands twice, separated by a brief interval when he left it behind.
