Agnes Emilia Carlsson was born 6 March 1988 and won Idol 2005, the second season of Sweden's franchise. Sony Music signed her immediately, and her first two albums - Agnes and Stronger - both topped the Swedish charts. In early 2008 she left Sony for Roxy Recordings, a small independent label, and the shift paid off. Dance Love Pop, released 28 October 2008, reached number five in Sweden and number thirteen in the UK, selling 200,000 copies worldwide. Its lead singles, "On and On" and "Release Me," became international hits, with "Release Me" peaking at three in the UK, topping Billboard's Hot Dance Club Songs, and moving over four million copies globally. She has cited Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston, and Janet Jackson as her inspiration.
