Yemi Alade, born 13 March 1989 in Ondo State, won the Peak Talent Show in 2009 and signed to Effyzzie Music Group shortly after. Her 2014 single "Johnny" broke through, and the albums King of Queens and Mama Africa sent her on back-to-back world tours. In 2015 she became the first African woman nominated for the MTV Europe Music Awards, and she took the MTV African Music Award for Best Female in both 2015 and 2016 - the first to win that category twice in a row. She debuted on Billboard's Next Big Sound Chart at No 4 in 2016, won The Headies Award for Best Performer in 2018 and 2019, and became the second Nigerian artist and first woman to pass 100 million YouTube views on a single video. Her sixth album Rebel Queen yielded "Tomorrow", which earned a nomination for Best African Music Performance at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards - her first Grammy nod.
