Salvador Vilar Braamcamp Sobral was born on 28 December 1989. In 2017, he entered the Eurovision Song Contest singing "Amar pelos dois", a song written and composed by his sister, Luísa Sobral. He won both the jury vote and the televote, finishing with 758 points - the highest total any winner has earned under the current system. The win broke Portugal's 53-year drought since its contest debut in 1964, closing the longest winless run by any competing country in Eurovision history.
