He went from Mickey Mouse Club kid to the guy who made audiences cry in The Notebook, then carved a second act in cerebral thrillers and oddball comedies - a rare star who can anchor a $1.4 billion Barbie juggernaut and a meditative sci-fi sequel in the same breath.

About this person
Ryan Thomas Gosling was born November 12, 1980, in Canada and started acting young, landing a spot on Disney Channel's The All New Mickey Mouse Club from 1993 to 1995 before bouncing through teen shows like Breaker High and Young Hercules. His feature debut came in 1996 with Frankenstein and Me, followed by a small role in Remember the Titans in 2000, but real notice arrived with The Believer in 2001. The Notebook in 2004 made him a romantic lead, then 2006's Half Nelson earned him his first Academy Award nomination. He threaded indie credibility through Blue Valentine, Drive, and Lars and the Real Girl with big-swing studio work in Crazy, Stupid, Love, The Big Short, Blade Runner 2049, and eventually Barbie in 2023, which became his highest-grossing film and brought a third Oscar nod. He also directed Lost River in 2014, released an album with his band Dead Man's Bones in 2009, co-owns a Moroccan restaurant in Beverly Hills, and has been with actress Eva Mendes for years.
