About

Paul Rudolf Carnap was born in Germany on 18 May 1891. He became a major figure in the Vienna Circle, the group that pushed logical positivism — the idea that meaningful statements must be either empirically verifiable or logical truths. He worked in Europe until 1935, then moved to the United States, where he continued refining his project of making philosophy rigorous, formal, and scientific. He died on 14 September 1970.
