Egyptian puppet pharao as the husband of Cleopatra VII
A teenage pharaoh who ruled Egypt in name only while his older sister Cleopatra held the real power, until his convenient death at roughly fifteen cleared the way for her son to take his place.
Born around 59 BC into the Ptolemaic dynasty, he became pharaoh at approximately twelve years old in 47 BC, elevated to the throne alongside Cleopatra as both sibling and nominal husband — the incestuous custom of their Greek-Egyptian line. For three years he wore the double crown while Cleopatra conducted the actual business of statecraft and diplomacy. He died in 44 BC at roughly fifteen, his passing suspiciously timed to Cleopatra's need for a new co-regent: her infant son Caesarion, fathered by Julius Caesar, who succeeded him.
