Ptolemaic dynasty queen regnant
She seized the throne when her father fled to Rome, ruled Egypt for three years, and was executed on his return — by his order.
Berenice IV became co-ruler with Cleopatra VI in 58 BC after Ptolemy XII Auletes abandoned Alexandria for political exile in Rome. By 57 BC she ruled alone. The arrangement lasted until 55 BC, when her father came back with Roman military support and an army under Aulus Gabinius. Ptolemy XII had his daughter overthrown and killed, then left his throne to Cleopatra VII and Ptolemy XIII instead. Berenice IV was born and died in Alexandria, her reign a brief interlude in the Ptolemaic endgame.
