Born in 1906, Princess Marina was a granddaughter of King George I of Greece and the daughter of Prince Nicholas of Greece and Denmark and Grand Duchess Elena Vladimirovna of Russia. In 1934 she married Prince George, Duke of Kent, fourth son of King George V and Queen Mary; they had three children: Edward, Alexandra, and Michael. Her husband was killed in a plane crash in 1942 while on active service, leaving her a widow at 35.
